Board Healthcheck
We have found that many organisations – big and small - want to improve the relationship between their organisation and its trustees, board or management committee. Some organisations are facing a step change, and know that they need to review their systems and processes for providing direction and making decisions.
However, many organisations either don’t know how to achieve this or are put off developing their board because “it’s too expensive”, “it’s too difficult” or “it’s too time consuming”. As a result they never look strategically at their governance – until a crisis hits them.
It is as easy as 1, 2, 3 …
1- Review
The process starts by using a tried and tested health check with board members and key staff to identify strengths and weaknesses and any specific problems that need to be addressed. This information provides a basis for further exploration and discussion to establish a whole picture of the organisation and its governance needs.
2- Report
A short report written for the board. This provides a summary of the current position and outlines options for development or change. The report also includes details of how to take forward the selected option.
Governance Works facilitates the decision making process.
3- Implement
The final step is make changes to working practice. Implementation often involves some or all of the following:
• Recruiting and selecting board members
• Providing policies and procedures for good governance
• Amending and improving legal frameworks
• Building the competence of the board through training and mentoring
• Induction for new boards
Governance Works has a team of highly experience associates who can offer advice and consultation throughout this process.
